The Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck has once again proven its might, conquering the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with an astounding time of 8:53.553. Just recently, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck demonstrated its prowess by outpacing 61 competitors at Pikes Peak in Colorado. This success came just after setting a new qualifying record in the open class with a time of 3:32.831, shattering the previous record by over seven seconds, in no small part thanks to the relentless dedication and ingenuity of the Ford Performance Motorsports team.
Mark Rushbrook, the global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, emphasized just how significant this is: “The progression of Ford electric vehicles taking on and completing the toughest challenges is a major testament to the hard work and dedication our teams have put into the program.”
The Pikes Peak climb wasn’t without its problems. Driver Romain Dumas encountered a technical issue that caused a 26-second stop on the course. Despite this, Dumas’ quick thinking led him to reset the 1,600-horsepower F-150 Lightning SuperTruck and continue the climb up the mountain, ultimately securing victory. “Everything about this event is a challenge because it is unlike any other form of racing; you only have one shot,” Dumas said.
The F-150 Lightning SuperTruck’s success is a result of collaborative efforts with STARD (Stohl Advanced Research and Development), which was instrumental in creating this high-performance vehicle. Equipped with state-of-the-art Sparco racing harnesses, top-of-the-line safety equipment, and bespoke Pirelli P-Zero tires, the SuperTruck is engineered to tackle the most demanding conditions with ease.
