The 2021 Ford Explorer offers plenty of room for seven passengers, or six if you go with the second-row captain's chairs, for your family adventures. Offering a spacious cargo area and comfortable seating, you and your family will love taking road trips in the Explorer. If you're in the market for a midsize SUV, this one needs to be at the top of your list. Check out the top features that drivers can't stop raving about on the 2021 Ford Explorer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
You can get the 2021 Ford Explorer in six trims, the Base, XLT, Limited, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. The Base offers LED taillights, a body-color liftgate spoiler, and a power liftgate. Move up to the XLT for power and heated sideview mirrors. The Limited adds LED fog lamps, dual chrome exhaust tips, power-folding mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers. On the ST, you get LED taillamps with a unique blackout treatment, quad chrome exhaust tips, and a hands-free, foot-activated liftgate.
The King Ranch upgrades you to power-folding, heated side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, security approach lamps, and a driver's side auto-dimming feature. The Platinum has body-color door handles with satin aluminum inserts and satin chrome lower bodyside cladding inserts.
Engine (Power)
The Explorer has two engine options, depending on trim level. The first engine found on the Base, XLT, and Limited is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque powers the top trims. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission to provide you with a smooth ride.
Performance
Performance-enhancing features added to the Explorer make for a fantastic driving experience. These features include an anti-lock braking system, traction control, and the ability to haul 5,600 pounds. Bring along the recreational toys for a weekend of fun on your next adventure. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional four-wheel drive on all trims. The four-wheel drive provides you with more control on and off the road when conditions are questionable.
Interior
Slide into the Explorer, and you'll be surrounded with comfort and technology features. These include a Wi-Fi hot spot, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the Base. The XLT comes with a keyless entry and ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats.
You get interior ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel on the Limited. Enjoy the sportier seats in the ST and the unique leather upholstery on the King Ranch. The Platinum offers an extended leather upholstery for a luxurious feel. Additional features available include massaging front seats, a 10.1-inch touch screen, and a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen premium sound system.
Safety Features
Ford knows how important safety is to you and has added features to that end. You get frontal collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitor with cross-traffic alert, and trailer sway control standard on all trims. Available features include a surround-view camera system, front parking sensors, an adaptive cruise control, and a lane-centering system. The advanced air bag system helps protect you and your passenger in the event of a collision.
