Ford F-150 PowerBoost

This Fall Ford Will Begin Production of the 2021 F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid

There’s been some exciting buzz coming from Ford recently, from the return of the beloved Bronco, to the buzz of an all-electric F-150 expected in 2022. If you’re particularly interested in the development of Ford’s eco-friendly options, don’t worry – you won’t have to wait that long. This fall, Ford will begin production of their first full-size hybrid pickup truck, which will be known as the PowerBoost.

What is the Ford F-150 PowerBoost?

This new F-150 expected for release later this year, is the first ever hybrid truck from Ford, targeted to deliver the most-ever towing capacity, payload, torque and horsepower.

How does Ford’s PowerBoost work?

What makes this new rig move is the 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full hybrid engine, promised to live up to its Built Ford Tough reputation. The twin-turbo gas V-6 engine is assisted by a 35-kW electric motor within a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Its electric motor is fueled by a battery which is mounted on the underbelly of the truck, so no legroom or cargo space is sacrificed. The electric motor and engine work together to capture all energy during braking so nothing is wasted and fuel is saved.

How much power does it generate?

Available in two- or four-wheel drive, the PowerBoost is powered by a combination of Ford’s twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission complete with an embedded electric motor. With the ability to tow more than 12,000 pounds, the PowerBoost is expected to produce more than 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. It will also come with the option for a 7.2-kW generator, capable of running equipment like chop saws, compressors, cutters and welders for more than 30 hours.

What is the total range per tank of gas?

The PowerBoost has been said to reach 700 miles on a 30.6-gallon tank, but more information is expected to come.
