2023 Ford Transit
The Ford Transit is a highly configurable full-size van. Along with several wheelbases to choose from, buyers can also choose from multiple roof heights and equip it as a cargo van or a passenger van. Take a look at some of the 2023 model's best features.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Transit cargo and crew vans come in a single trim level, but you can choose from the 150, 250, or 350 versions. Each of these models has increased gross weight ratings. The cargo van comes with a sliding passenger side door, rear doors, and manually adjustable side mirrors. The passenger van comes in two trim levels. The passenger XL has a sliding passenger side door, power-adjustable side mirrors, roof marker lamps, and a rear tow hook, while the passenger XLT comes with a honeycomb mesh grille with chrome surround, front fog lights, and chrome-trimmed halogen headlights. Running boards are optional for the XLT, along with an extended range 31-gallon fuel tank.
Engine (Power)
Ford offers the Transit with two powertrains to choose from. The base engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 with 275 horsepower. If you prefer more power, a 3.5-liter turbo V-6 puts out 310 horsepower and gets 410 pound-feet of torque. Both engines work with a 10-speed automatic transmission configured for either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Performance
The ride in the Transit is comfortable, and this van is easy to handle. The intelligent all-wheel drive system will balance torque between the front and rear wheels to get you the best traction, and the system is designed to do this before any wheel slip occurs. The engines have plenty of power for everyday driving in town and on the highway. When fully equipped, the Transit can tow up to 7,500 pounds.
Interior
Inside, the Transit varies depending on whether you have the cargo, crew, or passenger variation. The cargo van comes with tie downs in the cargo area, power windows, door locks, and manual reclining driver and passenger seats. The passenger van offers seating for up to 15, with convenience options such as a front overhead shelf, reclining rear seats, and leather upholstery.
Technology features start with a 4-inch display screen, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, and a four-speaker stereo. An 8-inch touch screen is available, and you can also get the SYNC 3 infotainment system or the SYNC 4 infotainment system with satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 12-inch multifunction display, and a six-speaker stereo system. Adding Ford's telematics subscription can help fleet owners monitor their vehicles and help keep up with maintenance.
Safety Features
All the Ford Transit vans come with a rearview camera and several advanced driver aids. These include a pre-collision assist system with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, post-collision braking, and automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers. The XLT passenger van comes with a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert with trailer coverage, and parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control is optional for the XLT, and you can also get an integrated trailer brake controller.
