There may be a trucker's choice of new full-size, light-duty pickups here in eastern Missouri, but two brands have held the line ahead of the class: Ford and Chevrolet.

It's plain to see why, too: they're both industry standouts, with decades of proven capability behind them. However, more tradespeople, off-roaders, and project managers, from up in Clayton to down in Oakville, prefer one over the other, and that's Ford. Check out a head-to-head comparison between Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado 1500 here at Schicker Ford of St. Louis, and you'll see what we mean.

Ford F-150 vs. Chevy Silverado 1500

  • For one, Ford F-150 accelerates more quickly and works harder on the daily Webster Groves duty roster, owing to horsepower ratings between 250 and 450 and torque ratings between 265 and 510 pound-feet. Chevy Silverado 1500 can only deliver up to 420 and 460 respectively.
  • Secondly, Ford F-150 is better for navigating the unbeaten path outside of Mehlville. Its Raptor trim incorporates a high-output, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, shelling 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss can only get up to only 385 horsepower and 383 pound-feet, and only with an available and power-hungry 5.3-liter V8. A 6.2-liter V8 option can put out a close 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet, but you have to go to the top of the line to get it, and it's still only optional.
  • Finally, Ford F-150 is a class leader for both hauling and towing, with ratings up to a respective 3,270 pounds and 13,200 pounds. Chevy Silverado 1500 can haul up to a respective 1,960 and 11,000 pounds, reaching a max 17,700 pounds near the top of the line, but only in 4WD, with the highest engine capacity available, and by opting for an available Max Trailering Package -- a tall order, given that financing or leasing a new Ford F-150 is more cost-effective than choosing Chevy Silverado 1500 in the first place.
